Charges are expected to be filed Wednesday against a Thermal man accused of killing a man whose body was found lying near a drainage channel last week.
Saul Mayoral, 50, remains held on suspicion of murder in connection with the body of a man found Friday morning in the 87800 block of Avenue 52.
The unidentified victim, who lived in a nearby mobile home, appeared to have suffered blunt-force trauma, according to Sgt. Wallace Clear of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Mayoral also lived nearby, Clear said, but whether he had any further relationship with the victim was unclear.
Sheriff’s deputies received word of the body at 7:17 a.m. Friday, when a local resident flagged down deputies after discovering the body.
Mayoral is being held without bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, county jail records show.
At the time of his arrest, Mayoral was on probation for battery committed against a custodial officer, according to court records.
