Charges were expected to be filed Wednesday against a Thermal man accused of killing a man whose body was found lying near a drainage channel last week.
Saul Mayoral, 50, remains held on suspicion of murder in connection with the discovery of a man’s body in the 87800 block of Avenue 52 Friday morning.
The unidentified victim, who lived in a nearby mobile home, appeared to have suffered blunt-force trauma, said Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Wallace Clear. Mayoral, who lived nearby, is being held without bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, county jail records show.
Authorities have not said how they connected Mayoral to the slain man.
The sheriff’s department received word of the body at 7:17 a.m. Friday when it was discovered by a local resident who flagged down deputies.
At the time of his arrest, Mayoral was on probation for battery committed against a custodial officer, according to court records.
