A man suspected of striking a deputy with his vehicle while he was intoxicated in East Los Angeles was in custody Saturday.

The crash was reported at 9:38 p.m. Friday in the area of Sixth Street and Ferris Avenue, said Deputy Trina Schrader of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The deputy and his partner were conducting a traffic stop at that location when a passing vehicle crashed into their patrol car, causing minor damage, Schrader said. The driver was immediately detained by the deputies.

The injured deputy was taken to a local hospital for treatment and has since been released, Schrader said.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash and arrested the driver for DUI, she said.
