Authorities Thursday identified two men who were killed in a shooting at a Long Beach residence, where a third man was wounded.
The crime occurred about 12:05 a.m. Wednesday in the 5300 block of Orange Avenue, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
Suy Phavong, 52, who lived at the location, died at the scene, the coroner’s office reported. Panha Nhean, 35, of Long Beach died at a hospital. The third man was treated for a non-life-threatening wound to his upper body. His name was not released.
No suspect description was released by police.
A GoFundMe page for Phavong described him as a “beloved husband, father, friend and much more.”
Phavong had come to the U.S. from Cambodia in 1979, during or near the end of the genocidal reign of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge, according to NBC4.
A man who identified himself as Phavong’s brother-in-law told the Press-Telegram that four men were hanging out in the home’s garage and back patio area when one of them started shooting.
Sonny Sourn said his brother-in-law lived in the home with his wife and children.
“I wanna cry, but I cried enough already,” Sourn said.
Sourn said the man who survived was a friend of his brother-in-law’s. Sourn said he did not know the second man who died, but he said he was a taxi driver who sometimes came over to hang out.
Sourn said the family doesn’t know what sparked the shooting.
A GoFundMe account has been established for memorial expenses and on behalf of Phavong’s wife and five children.
