A 15-year-old girl is in custody Friday for allegedly intentionally starting a fire that killed a woman in the Moreno Valley home they lived in.
The relationship between the girl and the victim, identified by authorities as 45-year-old Amy Morrison, was not immediately disclosed. The girl’s name also was withheld due to her age, authorities said.
The fire was reported around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 14000 block of Cloverfield Drive, according to April Newman of the Riverside County Fire Department.
Morrison was pulled from the structure and it took 24 firefighters about 50 minutes to put out the flames in the single-story home, Newman said.
Morrison was unresponsive and taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, said sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Brosche.
Due to suspicious circumstances, arson and homicide detectives took over the investigation, Brosche said. A 15-year-old girl who resides in the home was arrested on suspicion of murder and arson, according to Brosche.
Authorities did not disclose a motive.
