A woman from Coachella was injured in a crash following an armed robbery one month ago, spent four weeks in the hospital, and then arrested as she was released from medical treatment Friday, a sheriff’s sergeant said Saturday.
The robbery was on the afternoon of March 7 in the 52600 block of Harrison Street, said Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Andrew Nielsen.
Witnesses told investigators that a suspect entered the business, threatened an employee with a gun and stole an undisclosed amount of cash, said Nielsen.
The suspect then fled in a getaway car driven by another person before deputies arrived.
Later that afternoon, deputies spotted the getaway car and gave chase. It crashed, and Mary Helen DeLara, 29, of Coachella was hospitalized with injuries.
Two days later, her alleged accomplice was arrested. It was not clear from crime reports, however, if Deana Romero, 48, of Thermal, had also been injured in the crash.
Romero spent two days in jail, then posted $30,000 in bail, jail records show.
Following four weeks of hospital care, DeLara was released there Friday and arrested by deputies, then taken to the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
She was booked on suspicion of armed robbery, kidnapping and felony evading law enforcement. Her bail was set at $1 million.
