A knife-wielding man who was killed in an officer-involved shooting at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw mall was identified Thursday.
Grechario Mack, 30, of Los Angeles, died at the scene of the shooting, which occurred about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at the mall at Martin Luther King Jr. and Crenshaw boulevards, according to the coroner’s office.
Officers sent to the scene on a report of a man with a knife encountered the suspect, who “was aggressively waving a long knife,” according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
“The officers began to verbalize with the suspect and repeatedly commanded him to put the knife down,” police said. “The suspect was very agitated and it appeared that he was possibly under the influence or was going through a mental health crisis. The suspect then ran in the direction of mall patrons with the knife in hand at which time an officer-involved shooting occurred.”
No officers, mall patrons or employees were injured, police said.
