A 61-year-old Santa Ana man with a prior conviction for sexual assault was sentenced Friday to 11 years in prison for molesting an 8-year-old girl at a December 2015 holiday party.

Raul Adolfo Marin Martin was arrested Dec. 12, 2015, at a holiday gift exchange at Davis Elementary School, 1405 N. French St., according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

The parents of the victim dropped her and her 10-year-old brother off at the school as they looked for a parking spot, Bertagna said.

As the siblings sat on a curb to wait for their parents, Martin sat down next to them and “touched the girl inappropriately,” Bertagna said.

A woman saw Martin allegedly “inappropriately touch the girl” and she intervened and sought out the children’s parents, according to Bertagna.

Martin was convicted March 15 of a lewd act on a minor. He was sentenced Friday to 11 years, despite facing up to 21 years in prison due to his prior offense in 2014, according to Deputy District Attorney Kristin Bracic.

Court records show Martin previously pleaded guilty to other crimes committed on Sept. 13, 2014, including sexual penetration of an unconscious victim and assault with intent to commit a sex offense, both felonies. He also pleaded guilty to touching an intimate part of another person. For those crimes, he was sentenced to five years of formal probation and a year in jail.
