A woman was fatally struck while crossing a Hawthorne street, authorities said Monday.

The crash was reported at 8:22 p.m. Sunday at 132nd Street and Inglewood Avenue, Hawthorne police Sgt. Joel Romero said. The woman was walking inside a crosswalk when she was struck by the northbound vehicle, Romero said.

“She was thrown to the curb where she landed under a parked vehicle,” he said.

The woman, believed in her mid-30s, was pronounced dead at the scene, Romero said.

The vehicle driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, he said. DUI was not believed a factor because the man passed a field sobriety test and volunteered to have his blood drawn and tested.

All of the lights and traffic signals in the intersection were working, Romero said. Investigators remained at the scene through the night trying to determine the cause of the crash, including whether the woman crossed after the “Do Not Walk” signal started flashing.
