A 25-year-old motorist who was killed in a fiery crash in Fullerton was identified Thursday by the Orange County coroner’s office as Mark Galavan Jr. of Whittier.
The crash occurred about 1 a.m. Wednesday, near Harbor and Brea boulevards.
Galavan was heading north on Harbor Boulevard in a 2007 Toyota Sienna, approaching the intersection known as the “Brea Y,” when the minivan veered off the road, slammed into a signal pole on an island and then spun out of control, said Fullerton police Sgt. Jon Radus.
The vehicle then slammed into a traffic signal box before ending up on an embankment near a building under construction, Radus said.
When officers arrived, the minivan was “engulfed in flames,” Radus said.
Galavan was pronounced dead at the scene. Because of the condition of the remains, positive identification was expected to take some time, Radus said.
The driver’s speed and possible use of drugs or alcohol were under investigation as potential causes of the crash, Radus said.
Anyone who witnessed the crash was encouraged to call investigators at (714) 738-5313, or Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS to provide an anonymous tip.
