A man who allegedly fled to Mexico six years ago after being accused of raping a woman at knifepoint in Anaheim made his initial court appearance Wednesday afternoon and was ordered held on $1 million bail.
Arraignment was rescheduled to May 25 for Aristeo Alquicirez, who is accused of raping the woman on April 14, 2012. In addition to rape, the 40-year-old defendant is charged with making criminal threats, assault with the intent to commit a sex offense and first-degree burglary, according to court records.
Alquicirez was arrested Monday following a car crash in Orange that he was involved in, Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said.
Police in Orange determined that Alquicirez, who was being treated at a hospital for injuries sustained in the crash, was wanted on a warrant in the rape case and contacted Anaheim detectives, Wyatt said.
Alquicirez dated the victim for a few months, and allegedly attacked her at knifepoint after she broke up with him, said Deputy District Attorney Rick Zimmer. The defendant allegedly hid in the woman’s bedroom and jumped out when she came into the room, the prosecutor said.
