A 70-year-old man was under arrest Thursday morning and accused of shooting to death his girlfriend’s son in Compton, authorities said.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies went to the 15800 block of South Visalia Avenue around 8:55 p.m. Wednesday in response to a call about a gunshot victim, said sheriff’s Deputy Trina Schrader.
When deputies arrived, they detained 70-year-old Michael Cummings in the front yard of the home and found a gun in his pocket, Schrader said.
Investigators learned that Cummings and his girlfriend’s son, 53-year-old Roger Lee Scott, had gotten into an argument, then a fight, before being separated and going to different bedrooms, said Schrader.
Cummings then grabbed a firearm, went to Scott’s room and shot him in the upper torso, then called 911 to report what he had done, according to Schrader.
Cummings was taken to the Sheriff’s Century Station to be booked on suspicion of murder.
