A man who was fatally injured when he was ejected from a sedan that overturned on a hillside just east of Hemet was identified Thursday as a 28-year-old resident of that city.

James Honeycutt was killed about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday on state Route 74, about a mile south of Bee Canyon Truck Trail, in the unincorporated community of Valle Vista, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Darren Meyer said the victim was in the right front passenger seat of a 2002 Mercedes-Benz driven by 25-year-old Sabrina Garcia of San Jacinto.

According to Meyer, Garcia was headed west on the 74 when she allowed the Mercedes to drift onto the shoulder of the highway and travel up a slope, where the car overturned, rolling back onto the highway.

Honeycutt, who was not wearing his safety belt, was thrown onto the pavement, Meyer said. Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived a few minutes later and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Garcia suffered minor injuries but declined to be taken to a hospital for treatment, Meyer said.

He said there was no indication that alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
