A 32-year-old man accused of killing a man in Mead Valley and shooting another man at a public safety training facility in Riverside was arrested and remained jailed without bail Saturday, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
The investigation began when deputies received an assault with a deadly weapon call just after 6 p.m. Thursday near the entrance of the Ben Clark Training Center, at 16791 Davis Ave., said Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Walter Mendez.
There, they found a man who had been shot, Mendez said. The victim was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
Deputies later discovered the body of a man at a Mead Valley home in the 21900 block of Bailly Street, about two miles southeast from the training center, Mendez said.
Efrain Lopez was arrested at 6 p.m. Friday after deputies searched a suspicious vehicle at the training center where the shooting had occurred the previous day.
He was booked into the Southwest Detention Center on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, according to jail records.
Mendez did not say how the two crimes were connected, and there was no word on a motive.
