A man suspected of stealing a car in Long Beach is under arrest Saturday morning after leading law enforcement on a chase that began in Downey and ended in Lynwood, authorities said.
A Downey Police officer ran the license plates of a car at 11 p.m. Friday and it came back stolen, said Sgt. Melissa Clemann of the Downey Police Department.
When the officer tried to pull the driver over, he drove off, Clemann said.
The driver got onto the Century (105) Freeway at Lakewood Boulevard and led Downey Police and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies along the freeway until he exited at Long Beach Boulevard in Lynwood, according to multiple media reports.
Police and sheriff’s deputies turned the pursuit over to the California Highway Patrol, who arrested the man without incident at Martin Luther King Boulevard and Burris Road in Lynwood about 30 minutes after the chase began.
The man’s name and age were not disclosed.
