A 24-year-old motorcyclist who was struck in a hit-and-run in Anaheim about two weeks ago has died at the hospital and police have identified a person of interest, a police sergeant said Sunday.

The collision took place about 10:35 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, at La Palma Avenue and East Street, said Anaheim police spokesman Sgt. Daron Wyatt.

According to investigators, a white, four-door sedan pulled out of an Arco gas station parking lot at that intersection and turned onto La Palma Avenue in front of the motorcyclist.

The 24-year-old motorcyclist from Anaheim was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Wyatt said. The rider has died, Wyatt said. It’s unclear if he died Saturday or Sunday, Wyatt said. His name would be withheld until his family was notified.

The driver of the car fled the scene.

Police obtained a photo of a person of interest in the case.

“He’s been identified and is a person of interest, but we’re not going to release his name yet because it’s an ongoing investigation,” Wyatt told City News Service.

Anyone with information on the hit-and-run was asked to call Anaheim police at (714) 765-1900 or Crime Stoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS.
