Police officers pursuing a stolen U-Haul crashed Monday in Van Nuys, authorities said.
The pursuit started about 3:52 a.m. near Sherman Way and Woodman Avenue and ended with the crash at that intersection involving the police SUV and two other vehicles, police said.
The stolen U-Haul crashed into a “fixed object” shortly thereafter and a suspect fled the scene on foot, Sgt. Robert Martinez of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Van Nuys Station said.
Officers set up a containment perimeter and searched for the suspect, Martinez said.
The officers involved in the crash were taken to a hospital with complaints of pain, he said.
There has been a rash of thefts of U-Hauls recently, Martinez said, and officers have been on the lookout for the trucks.
