One of two men shot to death near a South Los Angeles car wash was publicly identified Monday.

Shauntrell Matthews Jr., 21, was a Gardena resident, coroner’s Investigator Jerry McKibben said.

A gunman reportedly drove up to the two men about 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Manchester Avenue and Cimarron Street and fired some shots, said Officer Mike Lopez of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section.

The victim now identified as Matthews was pronounced dead at the scene, Lopez said.

Police later learned that a man in his late 30s was taken from the location by a private vehicle to an area hospital, where he later died from his wounds, he said. The coroner’s office was still working to contact his next of kin, McKibben said.

The attack was believed to be gang-related, Lopez said. No further information was immediately available.
