A suspected drunk motorist in South El Monte who triggered a crash that killed him and injured his passenger was publicly identified Monday.
He was Joshua Harris, 25, of South El Monte, coroner’s Investigator Jerry McKibben said.
The crash occurred a little after 3:10 a.m. Sunday at Durfee Avenue and Rush Street, where a white pickup crashed into a tree and came to stop in the parking lot of an Auto Zone store, a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher said.
The pickup truck hit two parked, unoccupied, vehicles prior to stopping in the parking lot, Deputy Joana Warren of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Information Bureau said.
The driver now identified as Harris was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, another male, was rushed to an area hospital, where his condition was not known, Warren said.
“It appears that the motorist was driving under the influence,” she said.
