A 23-year-old man was killed and another person was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in Sun Valley Thursday, and Los Angeles police detectives were searching for the driver and another passenger who ran from the scene.

The crash took place about 3:30 a.m. in the 11000 block of Sherman Way, at the intersection with Vineland Avenue, according to the LAPD.

The driver of a 2007 Nissan crashed into several parked cars before slamming into a light pole. Two of the three passengers in the car were ejected from the vehicle, police said.

Juan Alberto Torres of Sun Valley was one of the people ejected and he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, according to the LAPD. The other person was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The driver and the third passenger ran from the scene after the crash. No description of either person was immediately available.

Sherman Way was closed between Case and Vineland avenues while an investigation was conducted.
