The alleged driver in a hit-and-run crash in Sun Valley that left another man dead was arrested Monday evening.

Oscar Armando Lopez was taken into custody about 7:15 p.m. in the 7300 block of Tujunga Avenue in North Hollywood after investigators were contacted by family members following a news conference where tips from the public were sought, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Lopez allegedly ran from the scene of the crash, which occurred about 3:30 a.m. June 7 in the 11000 block of Sherman Way, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Lopez allegedly was driving a 2007 Nissan Murano that crashed into several parked cars before slamming into a light pole. Two of the three passengers in the car were ejected from the vehicle, police said.

Juan Alberto Torres, 23, of Sun Valley, one of the people ejected, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, according to the LAPD. Another person who suffered critical injuries was taken to a hospital.

The driver and the third passenger ran from the scene after the crash.

A reward of up to $50,000 is available to tipsters for information leading to the arrest and conviction of hit-and-run drivers under the city’s Hit And Run Reward Program Trust Fund.
