A man in a wheelchair was struck by a vehicle as he crossed a busy Long Beach street and died at the scene, authorities said Monday.
The crash was reported at 11:50 p.m. Sunday in the 5700 block of East Seventh Street at Bellflower Boulevard, Long Beach police Lt. Tony Lopez said.
The vehicle was westbound on Seventh Street and it appeared the man in the wheelchair was crossing outside of a crosswalk northbound toward the U.S. Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, Lopez said.
The driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators, he said.
Police shut down Seventh Street in both directions for the investigation, Lopez said.
