Two men seen walking into the backyard of a home in South Pasadena were arrested on suspicion of stolen property and gun charges, authorities said Friday.

Officers were sent to the 1700 block of Lyndon Street around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday after a neighbor saw two men he did not recognize walking to the rear of a nearby home, according to Capt. Brian Solinsky of the South Pasadena Police Department.

Police made contact with the men, identified as Elpidio Reyes, 45, of Orange and Isidro Gutierrez, 43, of Los Angeles, who told officers they were at the home to perform irrigation work for the home owner, said Solinsky.

Upon further investigation, officers found the truck the pair arrived in and determined its registration tab had been altered and a search of the truck was conducted, he said.

Officer found a stolen firearm in the truck, along with several other items, Solinsky said. A description of those items was not available.

Reyes, a convicted felon, was arrested for being in possession of a firearm. Gutierrez was arrested for possession of stolen property.
