A 39-year-old man suspected of raping two transient women and sexually battering three others was arrested Thursday in Pomona, police said.

Police described the suspect, David Tymel Cummings, as a transient.

Cummings is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in a Pomona courtroom on two felony counts of forcible rape and three misdemeanor counts of sexual battery, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said.

“The first incident came to light in August 2017 when officers took a report in which a woman stated she had been sexually assaulted,” according to a police statement. “Within the next few months, four other women came forward with similar statements and suspect descriptions. All five women were believed to have visited the Pomona Armory or the nearby area where the incidents occurred.”

Detectives and officers were able to locate and arrest Cummings after a department crime analyst noticed all five reports included similar suspect descriptions, police said.

Cummings was being held in lieu of $280,070 bail, according to sheriff’s inmate records.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect was urged to call Pomona police at (909) 620-2085.
