A campus parking officer was fatally stabbed and a suspect killed in an officer-involved shooting Friday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona.
The stabbing occurred at about 4:30 p.m. in the 3500 block of West Pomona Boulevard and the shooting around 25 minutes later near University Road and Temple Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The victim was found in a truck in a rural part of the campus, stabbed to death, sheriff’s Lt. John Corina said.
“It looks like the suspect probably worked here on campus,” Corina said. “He may have been a custodian here.”
Both victims were pronounced dead at the respective scenes, Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez said.
“I can confirm a murder of a Cal Poly Pomona police parking officer and Pomona police … officer-involved shooting with the suspect, who didn’t survive,” Pomona Police Department Chief Michael Olivieri said in a Twitter posting soon after the stabbing and OIS. “We do not believe there are additional suspects, but searches are taking place as a precaution.”
Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau detectives were dispatched to investigate the fatal stabbing and officer-involved shooting.
