Police opened fire Friday on a man barricaded in a home in Sherman Oaks after he allegedly menaced officers, but it was not immediately clear if the suspect was hit.

Officers responded about 5 p.m. to the 4700 block of Tyrone Avenue, near Riverside Drive, to investigate a report of a man with a gun inside a residence, according to Officer Jeff Lee of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.

The suspect barricaded himself in the home, so police set up a perimeter and called in a SWAT team, Lee said.

At some point, an officer-involved shooting occurred, but it was unclear if the suspect was struck, Lee said.

As of 9:45 p.m., the suspect remained holed up, the officer said.

“No officers were injured and all indications are that the suspect is still alive,” police announced on Twitter about 9:30 p.m. “He’s believe to be armed and barricaded inside of a residence.”

The LAPD’s Crisis Negotiation Team was at the scene.

Some residents were evacuated and street closures were expected to last for several hours, police said.
