Two men were arrested in connection with two armed robberies in Lake Forest the same evening, authorities said Monday.

The first robbery was reported at 8:57 p.m. Sunday in the 23000 block of Orange Avenue, Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Todd Russ said.

The victim told deputies a man held him at gunpoint outside an apartment complex and took his cellphone and wallet, Russ said.

Another armed robbery was reported at 9:11 p.m. by a man who claimed two men tried to rob him at El Toro Road and Muirlands Boulevard and that a handgun was brandished, the lieutenant said. There was no loss and the suspects fled the scene.

Deputies located the suspects a short distance away, Russ said. They were detained and both victims identified one or both suspects.

An airsoft handgun was recovered from the suspects, he said. The replica weapons fire pellets.
