Officers recovered a 9mm semi-automatic handgun with a silencer, a 12-gauge shotgun and a dagger from a parolee during a routine traffic stop in Pomona, a police sergeant said Saturday.

Officers from the Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Task Force spotted a black Chevrolet Suburban with an equipment violation as it was entering the westbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway in the area of Gillette Road and Dudley Avenue a little before 11:45 p.m. Friday, Sgt. Mike Lange said.

When officers asked Timothy Barnes, 29, to step out of the SUV, they saw a concealed dagger in his waistband, Lange said.

“As officers continued their investigation, they located a Tech 9mm semi-automatic handgun with a silencer, a 12-gauge shotgun located in his vehicle. Suspect Barnes admitted to both weapons,” he said.

The Covina resident, who told officers he was on probation for narcotics sales, was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of a firearm, felony possession of ammunition, an unregistered firearm and possession of narcotics while armed, he said. He was booked at the Pomona City Jail.

Pomona police asked anyone with information regarding this incident to call them at (909) 620-2085.
