A 22-year-old man pleaded guilty and was immediately sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in prison for a crime spree in which he stabbed a victim and rammed a police car with a stolen vehicle in Anaheim on Christmas Eve.
Jose Angel Briseno pleaded guilty to attempted murder, carjacking and assault with a weapon on a police officer, all felonies. He admitted sentencing enhancements for the personal use of a deadly weapon and inflicting great bodily injury.
Sentencing enhancements for criminal gang activity were dropped in the plea deal, according to court records.
Briseno carjacked a victim arriving for work in the 1200 block of South Anaheim Boulevard on Dec. 24, 2015, about 12:30 a.m., according to Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt.
About two hours later in the 100 block of West Midway Manor, a man was stabbed, Wyatt said, and the attacker’s description matched the carjacking suspect.
The carjacking victim called police just before 3 a.m. to report that a friend saw his 2015 Hyundai at the Greyhound bus station at 100 W. Winston Road, Wyatt said. As officers arrived to check out the report, they saw a suspect driving away with the vehicle, Wyatt said.
Police followed the Hyundai to the 2200 block of South Spinnaker Street, where they confronted the suspect, who got back into the car to try to get away, Wyatt said. The suspect rammed the squad car, which led to both vehicles breaking down, he said.
