A probationer suspected of joining another man in pimping out a runaway girl in Riverside was being held Friday in lieu of $75,000 bail.
Leonard Lawrence Martinez, 32, was arrested Thursday and booked into the Robert Presley Jail on suspicion of human trafficking, lewd acts on a child under 14 years old, pandering, molesting a minor and probation violations.
Martinez’s alleged cohort, 59-year-old John Robert Titow, was arrested earlier this month and charged with human trafficking, coercing a minor to engage in lewd acts and pandering. Titow is being held in lieu of $125,000 bail and is slated to make a court appearance on Sept. 11 at the Riverside Hall of Justice.
According to Riverside police Officer Ryan Railsback, vice squad detectives identified Martinez as the alleged co-conspirator after gathering additional evidence in the last week. The suspect was located at a residence on Gemini Court in Jurupa Valley, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Titow, a convicted sex offender, was identified as the alleged pimp after a three-week investigation, Railsback said.
He alleged that the victim, whose name was withheld, was with Titow and approached several men, offering sexual services, as they walked in and out of a store in the 3900 block of Market Street in the predawn hours of July 7. One of the customers called 911, and officers went to the scene but were not able to find either the girl or the defendant, according to Railsback.
However, after reviewing evidence collected at the business, Titow was identified as the man allegedly supervising the girl, and the transient was tracked down and arrested on Magnolia Avenue on Aug. 2. According to court records, he has prior convictions for attempted lewd acts on a child under 14 years old and burglary.
Martinez has a prior misdemeanor conviction for driving under the influence of drugs.
