Two men were arrested Monday after they allegedly broke into a home in Garden Grove while the resident was inside.

Officers were dispatched about 2:50 p.m. to a home in the 12600 block of Jetty Street to investigate a report of a residential burglary that was in progress, according to Garden Grove police Lt. Carl Whitney.

The homeowner reported that two men had broken into his home and that he was hiding from them, Whitney said.

The victim, a 45-year-old man, said the suspects arrived in a silver Ford SUV, parked in the front of his house and then forced their way in through the rear of the home. He was able to escape out the front door and called police, Whitney said.

“Officers arrived within three minutes and were told by the homeowner the suspects were still inside and had not exited,” Whitney said. “A perimeter was quickly set up and a police helicopter and K-9 from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department responded to assist.”

The suspects ran from the home when they saw that police had responded. One was taken into custody and the second fled into neighboring backyards, Whitney said.

The sheriff’s K-9 unit found the second suspect hiding in some backyard shrubbery, according to Whitney.

“The suspect was bit in the leg and was treated at the scene by paramedics,” Whitney said. “He was taken to a local hospital for medical clearance. Both suspects were later booked at Orange County Jail (on suspicion of) residential burglary.”

One, identified as 22-year-old Carlos Daniel Lopez-Gamez, had an outstanding warrant for domestic violence, Whitney said.

The other suspect was identified as 26-year-old Sergio Alexander Donan.

Detectives are investigating if the suspects are responsible for other residential burglaries and urged anyone with information to contact the Garden Grove Police Department at (714) 741-5872.
