An 18-year-old man was shot in unincorporated Valinda and later died at a hospital and the 64-year-old man suspected of killing him apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said Tuesday.
Deputies responded about 7:30 p.m. Monday to the 1800 block of Gretta Avenue to a 911 call from a person at the location who saw the suspect shoot his mother and his brother, then ran from the house believing the suspect was going to shoot him next, according to Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies and Los Angeles County firefighters and paramedics arrived at the scene and transported both victims to a hospital where the 18-year-old man was pronounced dead and the woman was listed in critical condition, Koerner said. The suspected shooter was pronounced dead at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The motive for the shooting was not disclosed and the apparent murder weapon was recovered at the scene, he said.
Anyone with information about this incident was asked to call Lt. John Corina of the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
