A 66-year-old man is set to be arraigned Monday on charges that he fatally stabbed one man and injured another man in Pasadena this week.
Jose Antonio Santiago of Pasadena is charged with murder for the death of Jerry Chan, 42, along with the attempted murder of Dan Trevino, 32, who was stabbed in a leg, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The criminal complaint includes allegations that Santiago personally used a knife and inflicted great bodily injury.
The two victims were stabbed at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 2600 block of East Colorado Boulevard, authorities said.
It was unclear what prompted the stabbing, but it was preceded by a verbal exchange, Pasadena police said.
Santiago allegedly left but returned a short time later armed with a knife and stabbed both victims, according to police.
He was detained by a witness until police arrived and arrested him, authorities said.
Santiago has remained jailed since his arrest early Wednesday.
He could face a maximum potential life prison sentence if convicted as charged, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
