A man was taken to an area hospital for exposure to tear gas after a fight with his neighbor Saturday morning at their North Hollywood apartment building, where the suspect allegedly fired one shot inside his unit and was holed up inside the location for close to six hours.
Officers were dispatched about 1:30 a.m. to the apartment building in the 10800 block of Kling Street, in response to a report of a fight involving two men at the scene, said Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.
According to some media reports from the scene, a neighbor went to the man’s unit, asked the suspect to turn down some music and was punched in the face.
Officers knocked on the suspect’s door, heard a gunshot and eventually called in a SWAT team. The suspect decided to barricade himself and at one point during the standoff tear gas was fired into his unit, Lopez said.
The suspect was taken into custody about 7 a.m. and was transported to an area hospital for exposure to tear gas. His condition was not immediately known, Lopez said.
The suspect will be arrested on suspicion of battery and there might be other charges, Lopez said.
