At least two people were injured Thursday in a shooting outside a Jack in the Box fast-food restaurant in Van Nuys, prompting a lockdown at a charter school located across the street.

CHAMPS Charter High School of the Arts was placed on lockdown, but police stressed the shooting occurred outside the nearby fast-food eatery, possibly in the drive-thru area, not at the school.

The shooting was reported around noon in the 6800 block of Van Nuys Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Two people were seen being wheeled into ambulances with what appeared to be minor injuries. One of the patients was a woman, the other appeared to be a teenager. Fox11 reported that the patients were a teacher and a student who were across the street from the shooting and were unintended victims of the gunfire.

Initial reports indicated that two suspects were being sought. Channel 11 reported that two people were detained for questioning, and they were not affiliated with the charter school.

Van Nuys Boulevard was closed indefinitely in both directions, with traffic being diverted to Vanowen Street.
