An investigation was continuing Tuesday into the shooting death of a Carson woman, whose husband was arrested and later released but is still regarded as “a person of interest” in the investigation.
The shooting occurred about 3:40 p.m. Friday in the 900 block of East Joel Street. Fely Ramirez, 67, died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.
On Saturday morning, the sheriff’s department reported that her husband, 68-year-old Benjamin Ramirez, had been seen at the location around the time the crime occurred, and that he was being sought as a “person of interest” in the investigation.
About 10 p.m. Saturday, Ramirez was arrested by sheriff’s deputies, but he was released from custody about 1:35 a.m. Monday, according to the sheriff’s department.
“He is still a person of interest,” Deputy Kimberly Alexander said Tuesday. “The investigation is ongoing.”
Anyone with information about the case was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
