A man who allegedly shot and killed another man in Beaumont earlier this week, then was captured by authorities in San Diego County, was charged with murder and attempted murder Friday.

Alyais Lavante Jahneal Harper, 20, of Beaumont was arrested Wednesday in Oceanside for the Monday morning slaying of Trejean Malik Williams Cullors, 22.

Cullors was found at 12:56 a.m. Monday lying in the street in the vicinity of Fifth Street and Beaumont Avenue, police said. He had suffered “at least one gunshot wound” and was taken to a hospital, where he was initially listed “in grave condition,” but died of his injuries Thursday, police said.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots “and observed a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed.”

A criminal complaint filed Friday charges Harper with Cullors’ murder, as well as the attempted murders of three other men, all referred to as John Does in court documents. Police did not say if those men were struck by gunfire or shot at, but not struck.

Harper also faces a special circumstance allegation of lying in wait, making him potentially eligible for the death penalty.

He was taken into custody Wednesday by members of the Riverside County Gang Impact Team. Police did not disclose what led them to connect Harper with the killing.

He’s being held in lieu of $4 million bail and is slated to be arraigned Friday afternoon in a Banning courtroom.
