Coroner’s officials Saturday released the name of a 58-year-old man who was found shot dead in the driver’s seat of a car on a San Bernardino (10) Freeway on-ramp in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles, and authorities said he might have been killed in a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting.
The man was identified as Juan Romero Gordillo, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, which did not release a city of residence for Gordillo.
He was discovered shortly before 6 a.m. Wednesday near Soto Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
“A CHP officer observed a vehicle stopped along the left shoulder of the Soto Street onramp to the westbound 10 Freeway,” an LAPD statement said. “The CHP officer stopped to investigate and discovered the motorist sitting in the driver’s seat unresponsive with the motor running.
“The victim was driving … a Toyota Corolla when he was shot by unknown suspect or suspects driving an unknown vehicle, possibly driving on the same freeway,” police said.
A motive for the shooting was unknown, and no suspect or vehicle description was available.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call (323) 342-8964, or (877) LAPD-247. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
