Pomona police officers working a gang suppression detail with the California Highway Patrol arrested three known local gang members armed with four loaded handguns, authorities said Sunday.

The task force attempted a traffic stop for code violations at 11 p.m. Saturday in the 2200 block of Logan Street, Corporal J. Hernandez said.

“The vehicle came to an abrupt stop and passengers began to bail out of the vehicle and flee on foot,” Hernandez said. Suspects Marcello Hernandez, 18, and Renall Sanford, 23, were immediately caught. Dilbert O’Brien, 19, was arrested without incident a short distance away from the vehicle.

O’Brien tried to discard a small bag with four loaded handguns inside, Hernandez said.

The suspects were booked on suspicion of being gang members in possession of loaded firearms, carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a concealed stolen firearm, gang activity and carrying a high-capacity magazine, the corporal said.
