Three gang members who were convicted of a shooting in Compton that wounded a 4-year-old boy in a passing car are facing potential life prison terms.

Jurors found Luis Julian Beltran Perez, 23, Edgar Manuel Rosas, 35, and Salvador Sanchez, 21, guilty late Thursday of two counts of attempted murder and three counts of shooting at an occupied motor vehicle, along with finding true gang and gun allegations. Perez was also convicted of three counts of attempted voluntary manslaughter.

The three men confronted a group of men standing in front of liquor store near Atlantic Avenue and Compton Boulevard on June 7, 2017, and Perez retrieved a gun and began shooting at the group, according to Deputy District Attorney Shannon Cooley.

One of the stray bullets struck the 4-year-old boy, who was sitting in a passing vehicle, the prosecutor said.

Sheriff’s deputies rushed the boy in their patrol car to a hospital, where he received immediate life-saving medical attention, according to Cooley.

Perez was arrested the day of the shooting. Rosas was taken into custody several days later and Sanchez was arrested nearly two months later.
