A 54-year-old Long Beach man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a road rage incident in Placentia that left a motorcyclist hospitalized in critical condition and a pedestrian injured with a broken leg.
Just after 6 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Orangethorpe Avenue and Hundley Way, the driver of a dark blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck purposely clipped the rear tire of a motorcyclist from behind, ejecting the rider, who struck a retaining wall on the north side of the street, according to Sgt. Bryce Angel of the Placentia Police Department.
The motorcycle continued onto the north sidewalk of Orangethorpe Avenue and hit a pedestrian, Angel said.
The driver fled the scene and the motorcycle rider was taken to a hospital as a trauma patient and remains hospitalized in critical condition, Angel said. The pedestrian was also transported to a hospital for treatment of a broken leg and released.
A witness obtained the license plate number of the truck and around 4 p.m. Tuesday, officers went to a job site in Laguna Woods and arrested Michael Eugene Begin for suspicion of attempted murder, Angel said. The truck was located at the scene of the arrest and showed damage consistent with the crime.
Anyone who witnessed the incident was asked to call Placentia Police Department detectives at (714) 993-8146.
