A 29-year-old suspected drunk motorist with prior DUI arrests dating back to 2008 has been arrested in connection with a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning in Santa Ana that killed a man, sent two other people to area trauma centers and another person to an area hospital, police said.
It occurred at 2:20 a.m. in the area of South Grand and East McFadden avenues, according to a Santa Ana Police Department dispatcher.
Jesus Segura Herrera, a resident of Orange, was going northbound on Grand Avenue in a black Acura TL when the car rear-ended a white Scion XD as it began to proceed for the green light at the intersection, the Santa Ana Police Department reported.
The crash caused the Scion to be pushed across the entire intersection and both vehicles came to stop in the southbound lanes of Grand Avenue, north of the intersection, police said.
Herrera was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. A record check revealed that he had prior DUI arrests dating back to 2008.
A man in the white Scion XD — a back-seat passenger found trapped inside the car — was pronounced dead at the scene, said Capt. Daryll Milliot of the Orange County Fire Authority.
Paramedics rushed two people to area trauma centers, Milliot said.
Another person was rushed to an area hospital, the Santa Ana Police Department reported. That person’s condition was not immediately known.
