Police increased patrols Thursday on the Cal State Northridge campus after a shooting threat and a swastika was found scrawled on a bathroom wall in Sierra Hall, the second incident of hate language in the building in the past week.

The threat read “Mass shooting in Sierra Hall 12/12/18” with the swastika below.

“Late last week, we had similar hate language in this same building,” CSUN Chief of Police Anne Glavin said. “I want our community to know that Police Services is investigating, and we have stepped up patrols on campus.

“I am asking our community to be very vigilant and to report any and all hate language you see, including symbols, threats, etc. If you see any concerning suspicious behavior, please report it to our 911 center.”

The university issued a statement acknowledging that it was “aware of the hateful and offensive graffiti in Sierra Hall.”

“CSUN Police are investigating this use of hateful language and symbols and threat against our community,” the statement said. “We are working to remove this graffiti immediately. CSUN condemns this in the strongest possible terms.”

Sierra Hall is home to the school’s Psychology Department.
