A woman was struck and killed by a hit-and-run van Monday in a Downtown-area neighborhood, authorities said.

The crash was reported about 3:40 a.m. at 425 East Vernon Ave., Officer Greg Kraft of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section said.

The woman, believed to have been about 30, was pronounced dead at the scene, Kraft said.

The suspect vehicle was described as “an older white van,” he said.

An on-scene investigation was underway, Kraft said.
