The coroner’s office Monday released the name of an armed suspect killed in an officer-involved shooting in Azusa.
Jose Lemus, 57, was an Azusa resident, coroner’s Lt. Larry Dietz said.
The shooting occurred at 12:40 a.m. Friday at Irwindale and McKinley avenues, Azusa police Lt. Robert Landeros said.
Officers responding to a report of a possible burglary encountered an armed man who began to fight with them, and they fired at the suspect, Landeros said.
The man ran from the officers, who set up a containment in the area and called for a SWAT team to help search for the suspect, he said.
The suspect now identified as Lemus was found dead in the area a short time later, the sheriff’s department said. It was assisting Azusa police in the investigation.
