A woman killed when the car in which she was a passenger crashed into a block wall in the Lake View Terrace area was publicly identified Tuesday.
Amparo Garcia, 78, was a Lake View Terrace resident, coroner’s Lt. Larry Dietz said.
The high-speed crash happened at 3:15 p.m. Saturday at Pierce Street and Foothill Boulevard, said Sgt. Cameron Dunnet of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.
Both the driver and the passenger were taken to hospitals, where the passenger now identified as Garcia later died and the driver was in serious but stable condition, Dunnet said.
The cause of the crash was under investigation, he said. It was possible that a floor mat lodged under the pedals prevented the driver from stopping, Dunnet said.
