A convicted felon suspected of driving around Menifee armed with gun and carrying a stash of methamphetamine in his car was being held Friday in lieu of $1 million bail.
Freddie Josef Castro, 28, was arrested and booked Thursday into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being in possession of a gun while transporting drugs and being in possession of more than an ounce of meth.
According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Sam Morovich, deputies spotted Castro about 4 p.m. near the intersection of Bradley Road and McCall Boulevard.
Suspecting the ex-con might be involved in illicit activity, the lawmen pulled him over and conducted a search of his vehicle, Morovich said.
A loaded handgun and meth were seized from the sedan, he said.
Deputies detained the suspect and went to his residence in the 29000 block of Buena Tierra, where “additional drugs, ammunition and a revolver were located,” the sergeant said.
Castro was then booked into jail.
According to court records, he has prior convictions for transportation of narcotics for sale, auto theft, receiving stolen property and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
