A pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run collision in the Silver Lake area Wednesday.

The woman died at the scene of the 7:30 a.m. collision in the 1800 block of Hyperion Avenue, near Fountain Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Authorities withheld her name, but a family member at the scene of the crash told NBC4 she was 57-year-old Christina Garcia, a mother of three and grandmother of one.

“I would hope he would come and show himself,” Garcia’s son Edwin Aleman said.

“She loved her grandson. He’s 5 … and unfortunately he’s asking for her right now,” Aleman told NBC4.

Garcia was known to collect recyclables in the area, he said. She was possibly rummaging through trash bins and ended up beneath the bins and debris, police said.

The collision was likely caused by rainy weather and the driver may not have known he hit and killed someone, police said.

The vehicle that hit her was described as a tan colored, 2010 to 2012 Toyota Corolla. The vehicle’s right side mirror cap was left behind and the car likely has front-end damage, police said.

Video shows the driver getting out, appearing to check out the damage, then taking off.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call (877) LAPD-247.
