Four people were arrested and over 26 pounds of marijuana were seized Thursday morning when authorities served search warrants at a pair of pot dispensaries in Pomona that police say were operating illegally.
The two locations — at 798 N. Park Ave. and 788 E. Holt Ave. — were raided about 11 a.m., according to the Pomona Police Department.
The warrants were executed by the Pomona police Special Investigations Unit and detectives bureau and agents from the California Department of Tax Fee Administration.
“These dispensaries are operating illegally within the city of Pomona,” according to a police statement. “These locations have been contacted numerous times by Pomona code inspectors in an effort to educate the owners about the violations of operating without a permit. These locations refused to comply with the city’s request to cease the illegal activities.”
Sales of marijuana, though legal in California, are nonetheless illegal within city limits, police said.
In addition to seizing 26.7 pounds of marijuana, authorities also confiscated about 230 marijuana products and $5,641 in cash.
The names of those arrested were withheld because of the ongoing investigation, police said, adding that the case will be forwarded to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for review.
