A 24-year-old man was gunned down in Anaheim Wednesday in what police suspect was a gang-related killing, just hours after another man fell victim to a gang-related shooting.
Police were called to the 400 block of South Kroeger Street about 9 a.m. regarding a body found in the courtyard of an apartment complex, said Anaheim police Sgt. Jeff Mundy.
The victim, identified as Charlie Uriostegui of Anaheim, sustained at least one gunshot wound, Mundy said. An investigation revealed he had been shot around 2:30 a.m.
“We believe it’s gang-related,” Mundy said.
Police are investigating whether the Uriostegui’s death might be linked to another killing about 9 p.m. Tuesday at East Park Lane and North Lawrence Avenue, Mundy said. He said the victim of that shooting, also suspected of being gang-related, was identified as Jose Allan Martinez, 23, of Placentia.
“It’s something they’re considering, but it’s too soon to tell,” Mundy said of a potential link between the two killings.
There were seven homicides in Anaheim in 2018 and three this year, Mundy said.
No arrests have been made and anyone with information about either shooting was asked to call Anaheim police homicide detectives at (714) 765-1900.
